House love

I love having a space of my own (with the bf of course).

We go a bit mental with buying things to fill it with, but personalising a space is what makes a rented flat a home right?

Ikea purchases:

VILMIE RUTA I love the geometric retro pattern and the colours go so well in our flat.


Cheeky thrift finds:

amazing french glass and jug set with cute sailboats which I found in a charity shop in Grove they cost me like £3.50 there are 5 glasses in total but they were in the sink ha.


Le Crueset pans absolute bargain at £4 from a second hand yard in Wantage.(they are my fave colour as well!!)

Ive tried to match the table cloth with the kitchen tiles, its not perfect but good enough for now!

Posters:
I put these posters in the living room because the colours in each matched the room the yellows match the walls and the blues in the star wars poster matched the sofa, it ties the room together.


Continuing that seventies theme with Star Wars the frames are from Ikea.

So me and the Bf are steadily filling our home with lovely things, here are some of the latest additions:


I got the cushion :D


This painting we got from a carboot sale for 50p, madness! The frame alone must be worth that! It is beautiful and we put it in the bathroom. It makes me smile just looking at it.
Our lovely telephone, I feel like Audrey Hepburn everytime I use it!

I also watched The Lovely Bones recently, it was such a good film I really enjoyed it. Obviously it isnt a pleasant film, its really very sad. However the set design was incredible and the Salmon house is a dream come true! 1970s in all its bright floral splendor

Apology

My blogger account seems to be playing up recently and not letting me follow new blogs or comment on my posts or anyone elses!

Highly frustrating! so appologies I am not being rude, does anyone have a resolution to this? It tells me to keep logging in everytime I try and leave a comment or follow a blog and then when I do nothing happens....

Anyway, I gave a lot of clothes to charity the other day I feel good and my house is almost clutter free! I thought I could treat myself then to the new lamp I wanted from Tesco.... So as soon as I have collected it I will take a picture of it in my living room :)

millionaire shortbread yum!

the shortbread turned out great, doesnt half give you a sugar rush though, had to invite friends over to help us eat it!


I did find a celery and onion pot on ebay, and here they are in my new kitchen!



I also got this amazing coffeepot in a local charity shop, its made by sadler and cost me a resonable £5.

Sad Onion and friends

I had a flashback the other day when I remembered my nanny's kitchen.


These delightful chaps are sylvaC pots -I know my nanny had the crying onion one!

I want some in my new kitchen so I'm bidding on ebay.

Yes I know they are grotesque and while part of me loves them a big half of me thinks they are both tacky and terrifying but I can't help wanting them!

I think they are 1960s or 70s cannot be sure though, the glaze and colours would suggest so and the fact that my nanny had them.

1970s gems

More lovely seventies items.

These belong to my Mum, so I took pictures because the colours and photography is just so aesthetically pleasing to me at the moment!

This is a Habitat catalogue from 1975, I'm sure they sell similar items today! fashions really do come full circle! My Mum pointed out some of the light fixtues she and Dad had in their first house together.

The 70s isnt normally an era I think about because I dont consider it vintage (my parents would be offended if I did ha!) But since finding the new flat Im keen to run with the style of the time to make a wonderfully groovy living space.

I tried to nab some of the kitchen items my parents had from Mum is still too fond of them.nevermind! I will have to hit the charity shops!

Moving House!

I cannot remember if I mentioned I was moving in with my boyfriend in June.

I am so excited!

We have found a lovely flat (still in Cardiff) we are both itching to move in now. It has all the charm of the 1970s going for it with circular bathroom tiles and wooden panelling. Ihave no ictures of it at the moment but here are some of my planned purchases to make it a fabulous seventies paradise:

Tesco Direct arc floor lamp £50. I can't decide between these two, its hard to choose when you have only seen an online picture!

1970s Dresses

These dresses belong to my mother. I recently bought a book called 'isms...understanding fashion' there are some examples in the book which reminded me of my mother's old dresses. This is what the book writes about this trend:

Nostalgic Romanticism

Nostalgic Romanticism took its stylistic cues from the pastoral idylls of Victorian and Edwardian Britain and found expression in simple smocked dresses and aprons in delicately printed cottons.

It then gives Laura Ashley as an example.

this is a bridesmaid dress my mum wore for her cousin's wedding. I like it very much, although its a bit long because my mum is taller than me and used to wear the 70s platforms and wedges. (don't laugh at my expression, I am not good with being photographed, I'm used to being behind the camera!)

I love this green dress, the floral patterns and bright green remind me of the play suits Maria makes for the Von Trapp children in 'The Sound of Music'.
The dress is too big for me on the shoulders so the sleeves kept falling down, hence the pose.

just call me Emily von Trapp ;)

This dress is velvet, it was hard to show that in the picture. I had to leave the green backdrop of my sisters room!


Lastly, my sister is wearing a floral skirt and blouse set, there was a petticoat to go underneath because it is very see-through. My mum wore this to a friend's wedding.

Vintage Dress up

This is my 1970s Miss Selfridge day dress, it belonged to my mother and then she gave it to me because it doesnt fit her anymore and it just hangs sad and alone in her wardrobe.I like the style, it is a 1970s dress but it has the look of the 1940s about it.My face looked kind of silly so I cropped it out haha


My mum has a few more of her old clothes but she (like many others) thought the 80s would never be back in fashion so chucked most of her stuff away!

I love this dress because its good quality, at the beginnings of the highstreet store when the clothes were all made in England and workers were paid a fair price. How times have changed in just over 40 years!
This dress has a beautiful floral pattern.

Im no good at recreating hairstyles despite the books and tutorials Ive got/watched, so forgive my cheats pageboy look and quiffy thing. I need more practice!

My shoes were from Peacocks ages ago i love them! I wear them so often I had to get them re-heeled! I like the t-bar shoes because A) I can walk in them with ease no matter the hieght of the shoe and B) they are reminiscent of the 1920s my favourite era :)
