Let them eat Cake

Beautiful photography spread for Zoya jewellery based heavily on the Marie Antoinette movie by Sophia Copolla. I saw these on Absolutely Lady Like blog.
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
What I like:
I love the theme, I love the makeup and hair styling. The Zoya jewellery range is decadent in every way I really like the necklet and earring in the bath photo and the sparkling rose ring, it reminds me of a range we sell at work called Le Vian. (I will do a separate post on that as there is so much of the jewellery I want!)

I have some images from the film which you can see the very obvious influence it has had on this shoot.

I left the photographs which were less influenced by the film out because they were more contemporary and generic, I didnt like them as much.

Barbie goes French

I would like this Barbie
Photobucket

It reminds me of the ones I saw at the Barbie exhibition two years ago in Palma.

http://domesticblogess.blogspot.com/2009/09/barbie.html

The picture of the Marie Antoinette Barbie made me go back through my folder from that holiday and I remembered the beautiful Barbie based on the Wedgewood jasperwear, I love her cameo choker.
Photobucket

here is the other doll which was released

Photobucket

I would love a wedgewood china set, maybe I will be lucky if I ever get married? I would get a grown up one for dinner parties and a Beatrix Potter one for everyday.

If I do get married I want this cake, but in peach, just like the Barbie....maybe she could stand on top next to a Ken?

Sometimes I worry I have very bad taste...

Toile

I would KILL for this Vivienne Westwood dress worn by Dita Von Teese!
Photobucket
Its gorgeous!! I also like the fact that she is wearing the Marie Antoinette Louboutins with it. Its nice to know that some stars wear a pair of shoes more than once!

This whole outfit really appeals to my 18th century sensibilities.

More photos of my bedroom

Just a few more pictures of my bedroom now its been decorated.

I bought some artificial flowers to go in the white and blue jug on my window sill.
Photobucket
I want to recreate a disply similar to the ones in Sophia Coppola's Marie Antoinette.

Here is the ikea mirror I mentioned.
Photobucket
I love the lace detailing and the pink ribbon/chain that you hang it from.
Photobucket

My second bedspread, which is lovely because the hints of pink and pale yellow break up all the blue in my room.
Photobucket
Yes I know it needs ironing haha. I still think I need a headboard...I dont like bare walls!
You can also see the little tower of draws my mum bought for me next to my bed.

I have bought a chandelier but It hasnt been put up yet so I didnt take any photographs.

I think thats my room done now really! Hope you like it.
I'm really proud of it, and I love staying at home now because I have such a nice room.

Bedroom Photos

So you might have read the post about my newly decorated bedroom. If you did you will know I promised some photos of it finished. It still needs a few finishing touches but this is how it is now.

I wanted a bedroom fit for Marie Antoinette. I couldnt do tonnes of gold because its such a tiny room so I went for the Petit Trianon country style.

(this is my duvet cover, i love how instead of poppers there are little ties to do it up)

I definitely need some kind of headboard for my bed.
I am still looking for the perfect chandelier.
And I know there is a lot of blue and white and not much else so im trying to incorporate pale pinks and yellows into the room as well, by way of flowers and photo frames.

I dont know if anyone saw Ferne Cotton and Paris Hilton on ITV1 the other day but Paris has an amazing house! There is a lovely french style cinema room some of it is a bit over the top but thats Paris Hilton and to be fair Versailles.

Loving the 18th century look

Just some lovely 18th century inspired pictures I found.
mostly Marie Antoinette film stills and stuff, but I love the pastel colours and all the lovely fabric in the costumes :D

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Have you seen the photographs taken by Annie Leibovitz? She did an awesome set of Alice in wonderland images and also some of Kirsten Dunst in her Marie Antoinette getup.
PhotobucketPhotobucket
while I do like these images, the dramatic lighting is very different from the film, the natural lighting i think suited it more than these shots. The Alice in Wonderland ones are really suited to the style though, so definitley google them if your interested

If you like those shoes above check out these Louboutins that Dita Von Teese is wearing, I also love the vibrant yellow ones!
PhotobucketPhotobucket
They will set you back around a cool £3,975. totally worth it if you can afford them, in my opinion!

Even Girls Aloud had a go in their 'I don't speak French' video, slightly more like underwear but I like it!

Ive seen a few costumes online like the Girls aloud ones, check out this one its my fave (ignore the sarcastic looking model):
Photobucket
from www.joke.co.uk its a little pricey but it looks like a nicely made one. If I ever get invited to a historical character party or have my own 18th century French tea party, then this is what I will buy!

If your interested in the more accurate historical side to the 18th century there is a great blog here:

by for now :)

Bank Holiday Fun!

The title to this blog is misleading because I am currently eyes deep in my essay on German Architectural Photography (not fun). Ive written 3134 words of 3500 so I'm not doing too badly. However progress seems to have slowed down and I can't get back into it, another trip to the uni library is needed. I only have until Friday to finish.PANIC!

I realise for a photography student i dont talk a lot about my photography work so heres a bit more of an insight. I am very interested in Architectural Photography and in my opinions the Germans are the best at it.
Bernd and Hilla Becher are one of my favourites here is an example of their work
Photobucket Bernd and Hilla Becher - Water Towers.

Researching my essay Ive come across a lot of German photographers I hadn't previously heard of such as Laurenz Berges
Photobucket

and Jorg Sasse. I love this image
Photobucket
(yes i know its not architectural) both Sasse and Berges were taught by Bernd Becher at the Dusseldrof Academy.

I also just wanted to mention The Duchess because I finally watched it yesterday, (no one would see it at the cinema with me!) same as Young Victoria.... now i have to wait months until it comes out on DVD! I find it really unfair actually because I'm always getting dragged off to see films I have no interest in by my boyfriend.

ANYWAY!

The Duchess, beautiful costumes as expected, i am a huge fan of 18th century fashion and decor.
I never used to like Kiera Knightley, i used to find her constant pouting and over the top english accent annoying, but I must admit after watching Atonement and The Duchess, she is growing on me considerably.
Her portrayal of Georgiana Cavendish Duchess of Devonshire was wonderful. The Duchess' marriage was a very unhappy one, she ended up having to share her husband with her best friend Lady Elizabeth Foster.
Georgiana's life is often compared to the life of Marie Antoinette there certainly are many similarities (i love the Sophia Coppola film starring Kirsten Dunst, you should watch it if you havent already). Also Princess Diana was an ancestor of the Duchess of Devonshire...more paralells?

Georgiana was at her time one of the most fashionable women in England, and she used her 'celebrity status' to help popularise the Whigs party.
The film is very sad, but worth watching, the cinematography is wonderful.
This is a portrait of Georiana by Thomas Gainsborough and a film still of Keira Knightly in my favourite of her costumes from the film.(her campaign outfit promoting Charles James Fox)

anyway thats all for now :) cya x
